With the New Year here, many
people are trying to make healthier choices to better themselves. One of the
many goals people have is to lose weight or just ‘move more’ in general.
Luckily, many of our daily tasks aid in our daily caloric expenditure. While it
may not seem like your burning any calories since you’re not out of breath or
sweating uncontrollably, you are already moving toward good health.
Sure- cleaning the house may not
be the most enjoyable task after a long day of work, but you can burn upwards of
150 calories every hour! Next time you’re cleaning your house and you’re
lugging that vacuum around or bending and twisting to dust those family
trinkets, know you’re doing something healthy for yourself too! Don't be shy, add a couple extra squats for good measure!
You know that dreadful chore of
grocery shopping? You’re burning calories! Walking around the store, whether it’s
for groceries or new clothes, can burn hundreds of calories depending on the
length of time. Just imagine if you are clothes shopping and trying on
different shirts, pants, or shoes! When roaming the shops, don’t forget to take the stairs instead of the escalader or
elevator!
We know it’s easier to go to a
car wash to get your car cleaned, but have you thought about doing it yourself?
Choosing to wash your car by hand will not only save you money, but will also
keep the pounds off! That’s a win-win in my book!
If you’ve been putting off those tedious
daily chores, you’re missing out on a great caloric burn! Although cardio and
weight training paired with good diet is the key to living a healthy lifestyle, these activities can act
as a bonus workout! Other tasks like washing dishes, moving furniture, and scrubbing the tub all burn calories too!
